The Division of General Internal Medicine is committed to:

• Providing compassionate, evidence-based, longitudinal care to adults with a special emphasis on those with multiple chronic medical conditions (ambulatory care)
• Delivering comprehensive care to ageing Iowans and their families (geriatrics and palliative care)
• Giving high-quality cost-effective care to patients hospitalized at UIHC and the Iowa City VA Medical Center (hospitalist care)
• Conducting rigorous research and analyses that will inform policy locally, regionally, and nationally and support efforts to improve patient care delivered at UIHC and the Iowa City VA (research)
• Serving as the center for data acquisition, storage, and analysis in support of outcomes research within the Carver College of Medicine and Iowa City VA (research)
• Educating medical students, residents, fellows, and other health professionals in the art and science of being a good doctor
