Elizabeth Field, MD
Introduction
Elizabeth Field is a Professor in Internal Medicine. She completed fellowships in Rheumatology and Molecular Immunology at Stanford University. She joined the faculty at The University of Iowa in 1986 and has been a staff physician at the Iowa City VA hospital since 1987. She became Director of the Iowa Regional Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory in 2003, and she serves as the laboratory's Clinical Consultant for the University's blood and bone marrow transplant programs, the liver, heart, lung, kidney, and pancreas solid organ transplant programs, and the Iowa City VA's kidney and pancreas transplant program. Her primary interest is immune tolerance, specifically understanding T regulatory cell function in induction and maintenance of peripheral tolerance. Her current clinical projects focus on improving solid organ transplant outcomes through refined anti-HLA antibody testing, epitope analyses and matching, and pharmacogenetics.
