Michael Ohl, MD, MSPH

Professor of Internal Medicine-Infectious Diseases

Introduction

Our work focuses on the development, evaluation, and implementation of strategies for delivering team-based health care and prevention services in rural settings, where resources are often limited. We are particularly interested in delivery systems that combine telehealth, integrated electronic health records, population registries, and innovative models for inter-professional collaboration. Current projects center on care for persons with HIV/AIDS. In collaboration with the Iowa Department of Public Health, we are also implementing and evaluating a telehealth model for delivering HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in rural areas of Iowa ("Iowa TelePrEP").

Dr. Ohl is also an investigator with the Center for Access and Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) and the Rural Health Resource Center at the Iowa City VA.
