Vikram Sharma, MBBS
Introduction
Dr. Sharma completed his MBBS from Seth GS Medical College in Mumbai, India. Subsequently, he undertook further medical training in England, including Core Medical Training from London Deanery (UK). He was awarded a doctorate ( MD-Res) from University College London ( UK) for his research on novel signaling pathways in myocardial conditioning against reperfusion injury. He completed an internal medicine residency from Cleveland Clinic in 2017 , followed by cardiovascular disease fellowship from UIHC in 2023 and an interventional cardiology fellowship at UIHC in 2024 .
As a member of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Dr. Sharma will perform procedures in the UI and VAMC cath lab, cover a share of the call responsibilities in the cath lab and inpatient units, as well as see clinic patients at UI Campus and Iowa city VAMC. His clinical interests include complex coronary disease and chronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs). His research interests include acute ischemia-reperfusion injury of the heart, ischemic preconditioning, cardiac biomarkers and coronary disease/CTOs.
