Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility

The Iowa Neuroscience Institute is committed to the inclusion of diverse voices and perspectives in our laboratories. We believe that the most impactful science is done when all members of the community feel a sense of belonging in discovery.

The University of Iowa is the first public university in the U.S. to admit women and men on an equal basis and the first to admit students regardless of race. Still, we acknowledge the structural barriers that have prevented some from achieving full scientific potential and our communal scientific potential. We are determined to uphold the university’s history of inclusion and belonging by identifying and eliminating structural barriers, which prevent researchers from achieving our scientific potential. We expect all members to be aware of each other’s individual experiences because diversity is how we evolve and make breakthrough discoveries.

In addition to the resources listed below, the INI offers a library of leadership and anti-racism books, which are intended to inform and support our scientific community. The library is outside 2312 PBDB; contact meghan-lawler@uiowa.edu to suggest additional titles or to request a book sent by campus mail if you are not able to come to PBDB.
