Why do you want to be a physician?

When I was growing up, several of my family members did not have health insurance. As a result, I often found myself going to free medical clinics with them. Seeing the difference first hand that these programs can have on a family’s life inspired me to become a physician. I hope to work with underserved populations to ensure they receive the most holistic care possible.

Why did you decide to come to the Carver College of Medicine?

The Carver College of Medicine quickly became my number one choice after my interview day. After talking with faculty and current students, I realized that the community at Carver was unlike any other medical school I had visited. Aside from just being friendly, everybody genuinely wanted all the students to succeed. There was no competition or negative attitudes. The fact that the Carver College of Medicine is one of the best institutions in the country was simply icing on the cake.

What are you looking forward to most about medical school?

I’m excited to explore the many branches of medicine through my early clinical experiences, research projects, and rotations. Since there are so many paths out there, I can’t wait to find my niche!

What advice would you give to those currently applying to medical school?

To those currently applying to medical school, I would tell them to not worry about doing 100 different things to make your application look good. Instead, do things that you love and are really passionate about. Whether that’s research or volunteering, be sure to enjoy what you are doing. Writing essays and talking about your activities during interviews will be that much easier if you are passionate about what you have done.

Top reason you chose Iowa for medical school?

My top reason for choosing Iowa for my medical school was the positive environment created by the amazing faculty and students. I’m only a few weeks into school, and I have already made some amazing friends!

What are some of your personal interests?

Some of my interests include playing soccer, watching sports, and playing the piano. Also, I recently started baking, and it has quickly become one of my favorite things to do!

Meet some more new students.
