Research Description

Dr. Yahr’s long-standing research program focused on the Pseudomonas aeruginosa type III secretion system, with particular emphasis on transcriptional control of gene expression. He received his BS degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point where he studied Listeria monocytogenes nucleases. Dr. Yahr earned MS and PhD degrees from the Medical College of Wisconsin where he worked with Dr. Dara Frank on the initial discovery/description of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa type III secretion and several of the toxin substrates. Dr. Yahr's postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Bill Wickner at Dartmouth Medical School focused on the enzymology of the Sec and Tat protein translocation systems. Dr. Yahr has been recognized for his scholarly, teaching, and service activities with several awards including the Merck Irving S. Sigal Award, the Jack Kenney Award, the JP Long Teaching Award in the Basic Sciences, and election to the American Academy of Microbiology.
