Joseph Barrash, PhD
Emeritus Clinical Professor of Neurology
Introduction
My primary scientific interest concerns disturbances of personality. My research has focused on the nature of acquired personality disturbances (APDs) consequent to development of a brain disorder. The Iowa Scales of Personality Change (ISPC) were developed to obtain detailed ratings by family members of patients with identified neurological conditions. Recent projects have investigated subtypes of APDs and their neuroanatomical correlates in prefrontal cortex, and specific personality changes associated with clinical conditions such as behavioral variant-frontotemporal dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and meningioma, as well as personality changes associated with normal aging and their functional consequences.
