David Lewis to present Nancy C. Andreasen Lecture April 26

University of Pittsburgh Psychiatry Chair David A. Lewis, MD, will present the second annual Nancy C. Andreasen Lecture on Friday, April 26. He will deliver his presentation, titled “A Neural Circuitry Substrate for Cognitive Dysfunction in Schizophrenia,” at 11 a.m. in the Medical Alumni Auditorium (3 GH).

David Lewis portraitLewis, a distinguished professor of psychiatry and neuroscience and the Thomas Detre Professor of Academic Psychiatry, is an internationally recognized expert in schizophrenia. His research focuses on the neural circuitry of the prefrontal cortex and how this circuitry may be altered in schizophrenia. He is also the Medical Director and Director of Research at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

The event is co-hosted by the Department of Psychiatry and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and honors Nancy C. Andreasen, MD, PhD, UI professor of psychiatry, a leader in the field of schizophrenia research. 

Andreasen, who holds the Andrew H. Woods Chair of Psychiatry, pioneered the use of neuroimaging techniques to study brain abnormalities in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Among her many awards, Andreasen received the National Medal of Science in 2000 and the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Scientific Research Award in 2012.
