Lastascia Coleman MSN, ARNP, CNM, FACNM, is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Under her leadership, the department has implemented or is currently working on the following initiatives:

• Working with Epic to develop a report that is disaggregated by demographic characteristics to assess utilization across different groups in the outpatient clinics
• Developing a DEI strategy for the department based on needs; examples of themes:
  • Longer appointment times for patients who require an interpreter
  • Ensuring we have tools, equipment, and training to care for patients of size
• Changing the naming at all texts, signage, and clinical locations to Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Women’s Health Cinic to foster a more inclusive environment
• Developing a patient advisory committee for the department
  • Currently reviewing intake forms and vetting them with the Patient Advisory Committee lead staff
• Offering Grand Rounds with a DEI focus:
  • LGBTQ care
  • Racial disparities in maternal health outcomes
  • History of racism in OBGYN
  • Didactic session for resident physicians on health equity
