Stephen Hunter, MD, PhD, promoted vice chairman for Obstetrics

Stephen Hunter, MD, PhD, has been promoted to the position of vice chairman for Obstetrics.

Hunter completed his undergraduate and medical training at the University of Utah and undertook his post-doctoral training as a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He furthered his training as a fellow in maternal-fetal medicine at this institution, where he has now remained on faculty for over 20 years. He has been the division and fellowship director for the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and is the author of over 60 academic publications.

Hunter is a nationally recognized expert in the care of patients with high-risk pregnancies. One of his greatest contributions to the state has been to serve on the Iowa Statewide Perinatal program leadership team, where he reviews quality and safety issues at all of the hospitals in Iowa that provide obstetrical services.   Hunter will continue this important work as the vice chair for Obstetrics. He will also assume the role of chief of Obstetrics at UI Hospitals and Clinics with responsibility for overseeing the clinical facilities and resources devoted to obstetrics at UI Hospitals and Clinics and all outlying clinics. In addition, his newest mission is to address the alarmingly low number of obstetricians in rural Iowa by working with the legislature to institute a rural obstetrical training track.
