Dr. David Meyerholz Receives Grant Funding from Children’s Tumor Foundation

January 13, 2016

Dr. David Meyerholz and colleagues at the University of Iowa, Sanford Health and the University of Arizona have received a major award from the Children’s Tumor Foundation to develop a porcine model of Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1). The NF1 mutation can cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body leading to a series of debilitating outcomes. Dr. Meyerholz will lead that team at the University of Iowa, which includes Drs. Darbro, Quelle, Sieren and Dupuy. The group plans to genetically engineer pigs to harbor the common human NF1 mutation leading to an animal model that should closely mimic the human disease.
