Dr. J. Stacey Klutts

The Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists (ACLPS) was founded in 1966 and continues to be the only multi-disciplinary clinical pathology society in the United States.  The society currently has active affiliations with 70 academic and community centers that train residents in clinical pathology.  With missions dedicated to advancing teaching and scholarship in laboratory medicine, ACLPS leads in the development of programs and policies that relate to resident education and the advancement of junior faculty in Laboratory Medicine/Clinical Pathology.  The society supports trainees and young faculty through the Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award and Grants Program, with travel awards for residents to attend its annual meeting plus grants to support senior trainees or junior faculty in their scholarship endeavors.  On June 1, 2019, Dr. J. Stacey Klutts was installed as the President of ACLPS after multiple years of service on the ACLPS Executive Committee.  Dr. Klutts performed his M.D. and Ph.D. studies at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences before completing residency and postdoctoral fellowship training in Laboratory and Genomic Medicine at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  He joined the UI Department of Pathology and the medical staff of the Iowa City VA in 2007.  He currently serves as the Chief of Pathology of the Central Iowa VA in Des Moines in addition to his roles at the Iowa City VA and UIHC.
