Dr. Katherine Gibson-Corley, in collaboration with Dr. John Engelhardt's laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, recently published a paper in the American Journal of Pathology which was featured by the journal on social media. The article, entitled "Pancreatic and Islet Remodeling in Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) Knockout Ferrets" identifies the phases of pancreatic disease in CFTR knockout ferrets from birth. The study also focuses on the endocrine pancreas; specifically, islet remodeling during and after exocrine destruction. These findings are significant as very little is known regarding pathogenic processes that influence the occurrence and progression of Cystic Fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD).
