Dr. Matthew Krasowski Wins 2014 Frank A. Mitros Award

Matthew Krasowski, MD, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology was presented with the Frank A. Mitros Excellence in Teaching and Clinical Service Award at a recent faculty meeting. This award is presented annually to a clinical faculty member who provides outstanding performance in both the clinical and educational missions of the Department after nomination by peers.

One of Dr. Krasowski's nominators stated that he "epitomizes the clinician-educator and is highly successful in both endeavors. He is extremely active in teaching: running an MOHD course, lecturing in Medical Pathology (where he received the top score for the lecturers), doing all the Lab Medicine Chemistry lectures, and teaching the pathology residents (resident teaching award recipient). He does an excellent job running the Chemistry Laboratory and in his role as the head of the Clinical Labs he is an advocate for pathology throughout the hospital and is very involved in appropriate utilization of laboratory testing. He is well regarded by the clinicians throughout the institution."

Another noted that he "runs the clinical chemistry/core lab and has made many improvements in the testing platforms/strategies since he came. Also, he is quite responsive to requests from clinicians to keep the path handbook well organized, set up new ordering patterns for lab tests in Epic, and is very conscious of cost effectiveness in laboratory testing. As a teacher he is heavily involved in the CP morning report series, advising residents on how to improve their presentations and actively commenting on cases. He has published with many residents, teaching them how to approach a clinical research problem and carry it through to publication as well as being the course director for MOHD3."

We are thankful and honored to have such a valued clinician and teacher working alongside us.

Congratulations, Dr. Krasowski!
