Marcus Nashelsky, MD, received an Outstanding Service Award from the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) during the organization’s October 2017 annual meeting. He served as NAME Vice President in 2014, President in 2015, and Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2016, and has chaired several committees during many years of NAME membership.

Dr. Nashelsky is a Clinical Professor of Pathology and directs the UI Hospitals and Clinics Autopsy Service; his clinical work is centered on forensic and general autopsy pathology. He is also the Johnson County Medical Examiner and an Assistant Iowa State Medical Examiner.

NAME is the professional organization of physician medical examiners (most of whom are board certified forensic pathologists) and medicolegal death investigators who perform the official duties of medicolegal death investigation in the United States and elsewhere. NAME’s activities are centered on professional education, development of practice standards, and accreditation of medical examiner offices to maximize contributions to public health and the civil/criminal judicial systems. The official journal of NAME is Academic Forensic Pathology.
