Rama Sompallae, PhD

Director, Clinical Pathology Bioinformatics

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Introduction

I am a Bioinformatics Scientist with extensive experience in developing computational tools to integrate high-through put genomic data to uncover novel insights into cancer biology.

As the leader of the Bioinformatics Team at the University of Iowa, Department of Pathology, I oversee bioinformatics group and collaborate with researchers across disciplines to drive groundbreaking discoveries in the field of immunology and cancer genetics.

Focus areas

  • Bioinformatics applications in Cancer research.
  • Detection of structural variations in genome using NGS data.
  • Developing novel computational approaches to integrate multiple-omic features (such as Transcriptome, Genome and Epigenome data).
  • Applying advanced data analysis methods to identify biomarkers and druggable candidates.

Significance to patient care

The computational methods developed will help researchers and clinicians interpret data to determine functionally relevant genes and mutations associated with disease.
