The Pappajohn Biomedical Institute sponsors annual competitions for the Best Paper by a Graduate Student and the Best Paper by a Postdoctoral Scholar. 

GUIDELINES

The current competition is open to graduate students in PBI labs and covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023.  All research papers published, including e-published, during this time are eligible. Papers accepted for publication prior to December 31, 2023, are also eligible even if not yet published.

The next competition for postdocs in PBI labs will be held in July 2024 and will cover the period from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

To enter either competition, please submit a PDF of your paper via email to mary-kenyon@uiowa.edu. Deadline to submit entries for current postdoc competition is Wednesday Jan. 31, 5 p.m.

• Lab group
• Brief description of your contribution to the paper (1-3 sentences)

SELECTION

Submitted papers will be evaluated by PBI PIs. Those receiving highest evaluation will be invited to present their work in a 5-minute chalk talk with 5 minutes for questions. 

AWARDS

Travel awards will be given, with $750 for first place and $500 for second place.
