Congratulations to our graduates! Our department honors your accomplishments and recognizes the challenges you've overcome through the last several years. We look forward to working with you again, soon or in the future, as colleagues.

Here is our class of graduating fellows, along with their plans for the future:

2022 Graduating Fellows - photos, names, credentials, specialties 

  • Kurt Bjorkman, MD, plans to pursue and advanced fellowship in Pulmonary Hypertension in Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio.
  • Janelle Buysse, DO, plans to become a CICU Hospitalist at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
  • Ramya Deepthi Billa, MBBS, will be pursuing a CVICU fellowship at Children's Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
  • Shruti Patel, MBBS, is still considering her next steps.
  • Michael Cole, MD, will be staying here at the University of Iowa to pursue a Neuroimmunology fellowship.
  • Gopinathan Gangadharan Nambiar, MD, plans to become an assistant professor in pediatrics at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
  • Gino Bardi Lola, MD, will be practicing general pediatrics in a Southeast Arizona Clinic.
  • Bharatendu Chandra, DO, plans to become an assistant professor in pediatrics and medical genetics via the physician scientist track here at the University of Iowa.
  • Moon Ley Tung, MD, will also become an assistant professor in pediatrics and medical genetics via the physician scientist track here at the University of Iowa.
  • Melanie Reyes, MD, plans to become a clinical assistant professor in the department of pediatrics, neonatal-perinatal medicine at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
  • Trassanee Chatmethakul, MD, plans to become an assistant professor in the department of pediatrics, division of neonatology, at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Norman, Oklahoma.
  • Angelica Vasquez, MD, will become an instructor of pediatrics at Center Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Irving Medical in New York, New York.

Here is this year's graduating residency class, along with their plans for the future:

  • Sirine Belaid will be pursuing a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
  • ​Ashlee Graham is going into a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
  • Alex Keating will be practicing general pediatrics at Complete Children's Health in Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Caitlin Lindaman will be going into general pediatrics at Mercy Pediatric Clinic in Coralville, Iowa
  • Shelby Mestnik will be pursuing a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis
  • Ben Palmer is starting his pediatric endocrinology fellowship here at the University of Iowa
  • Emily Phillips is going into a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri
  • Kacie Rytlewski will be one of our pediatric chief residents here at the University of Iowa
  • Jeremy Sandgren will also be staying at the University of Iowa to pursue a neonatology fellowship
  • Ashley Schumacher will be practicing general pediatrics at Mercy Pediatric Clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • Caitlin Thirnbeck will be one of our pediatric chief residents here at the University of Iowa
  • Megan Warneke will be practicing general pediatrics in Ft. Madison, Iowa
  • Blair Wright will be practicing general pediatrics in Sandwich, Illinois.
