This year, to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread, this prohibition includes all faculty, staff, and learners at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital and pediatric clinics (e.g. Pediatric Specialty Clinic, Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), off-site clinics, etc.), for whom an exception is usually made to support the annual Halloween activity for pediatric patients.
While play is an evidence-based and critical component of care for pediatric patients, Halloween at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital will be celebrated differently this year:
- The annual UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Trunk-or-Treat event will be replaced by unit-based activities on the pediatric inpatient units on Saturday afternoon, October 31st. The Halloween activity is led by Child Life in collaboration with the Children’s and Women’s Services nursing team.
- While faculty, staff, and learners at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital may not wear costumes this year, a Halloween or Hawkeye-themed headband may be worn by these individuals working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020. This includes all pediatric clinics (e.g. Pediatric Specialty Clinic, Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), off-site clinics, etc.).
- Headbands must be new and clean, and may not interfere with required PPE – including face masks or shields.
- Decoration of a face mask or shield is not permitted.
- Watch for other fun and safe Halloween-themed activities throughout the week at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Thank you for helping to ensure a safe and respectful work environment by adhering to the professional appearance policy and not wearing Halloween costumes or makeup.
