Tarah Colaizy, MD, MPH

Professor of Pediatrics-Neonatology

Introduction

Dr. Tarah Colaizy completed her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology (1994) and Doctor of Medicine (1998) at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI before continuing her education in Portland, OR with residency (2001) and then fellowship (2004) and a Master of Public Health (2004) at the Oregon Health & Science University.

She joined University of Iowa Health Care in 2004 as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Neonatology. Along with her service to the division, she served for several years as Medical Director for the High Risk Infant Follow-Up Program (2011-2015, 2016-2018), and currently leads the Mother's Milk Bank of Iowa as its Medical Director since 2006, and the Human Milk Banking Association of North America as its Research Director since 2020.

Her current work includes a randomized clinical trial on the neurodevelopmental outcomes of extremely preterm infants fed donor milk or preterm infant formula.
