University of Iowa College Life Study
A study examining brain development in University of Iowa of Iowa college students in relation to health behaviors and substance use. We are looking for UI freshmen and sophomores, between ages 18-20 years old who may or may not have used alcohol or other substances. The study involves:
- two 3-4 hour visits that take place at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
- a functional MRI scan of your brain (no radiation)
- cognitive (thinking) and decision making tasks
- questionnaires related to behaviors, feelings, likes and dislikes
- a blood or saliva sample for genetic analysis
- 3 follow-up contacts by phone or email (at 6, 12, 18 months)
Participants can earn up to $260. Some may be asked if they would return for a follow-up visit in 2 years. If participating in this follow-up component, participants can earn up to an additional $200.
