Researchers in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are pleased to announce funding for the P01 project “Exploiting Redox Metabolism Using Pharmacological Ascorbate (P-AscH) for Cancer Therapy”.

This award funds ascorbate (Vitamin C) research for three types of cancer studies (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), non-small cell lung cancer )(NSCLC) and glioblastoma multiforme (GBM)) for a duration of five years, unifying the efforts of our research under one umbrella project.

Owing to the complexity of the project it will be divided into three cores to manage the grant and provide statistical analysis (Core A), manage biomarkers to ensure that patients receive the correct dosage (Core B) and oversee the clinical trials aspects as they relate to the grant (Core C).

It is hoped that the results of this grant will lead to the adoption of a Phase 3 clinical trial incorporating ascorbate into the pantheon of anti-cancer therapies.
