"Super Herky" gets permanent home

Super Herky

Radiation Oncology for H&N patients often means wearing a mask to immobilize the head during treatment, although this can be quite frightening to wear for children. To help them feel more at ease with wearing a mask, Weiren Liu, former Carver College of Medicine medical student and hospital volunteer decorated over 70 masks with characters liked by, and familiar to the children so that they would feel a little less apprehensive during treatment. As a parting gift to the department, Weiren presented “Super Herky”, that we are delighted to announce is now permanently housed within the department. Thanks to Volunteer Services for providing the funds to make this possible.
