Radiation Oncology for H&N patients often means wearing a mask to immobilize the head during treatment, although this can be quite frightening to wear for children. To help them feel more at ease with wearing a mask, Weiren Liu, former Carver College of Medicine medical student and hospital volunteer decorated over 70 masks with characters liked by, and familiar to the children so that they would feel a little less apprehensive during treatment. As a parting gift to the department, Weiren presented “Super Herky”, that we are delighted to announce is now permanently housed within the department.
