An article describing the role of the superoxide dismutase mimetic Avasopasem manganese has garnered the attention of the National Cancer Institute. The research article (Avasopasem manganese synergizes with hypofractionated radiation to ablate tumors through the generation of hydrogen peroxide) was first published in Science Translational medicine in May and then featured in the “News and Events section of the NCI’s website on June 23. The significance of this research was also noted in an article featured in the Carver College of Medicine.

The research project was a collaboration between University of Iowa, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Galera Therapeutics, Inc and has contributed to the opening of new therapeutic clinical trials in pancreas and lung cancer patients.
