Whitney is a graduate of East Carolina University where she earned her MS in Medical Physics. A devotee of QA programs she coauthored a publication entitled “A quality assurance tool for daily checks of the gamma knife high-definition motion management system”. Whitney accepted a position as a Medical Physicist for Genesis Care in Asheville, North Carolina.

 

Blake Smith PhDBlake Smith, PhD: 2020-2022

Blake completed his post-graduate studies in medical physics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is presently a member of the physics faculty at the University of Iowa Hospital and clinics. During his residency here, he earned the distinction of earning an "editors choice" award from "Medical Physics" for an article that he co-authored titled " Experimental and Monte Carlo characterization of a dynamic collimation system prototype for pencil beam scanning proton therapy."

Portrait Sarah StrandSarah Strand PhD: 2019-2021

Sarah is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned her MS and PhD in Medical Physics. Her dissertation was entitled "Detection of Fetal Cardiac Repolarization Abnormalities Using Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices and Optically Pumped Magnetometers." She returns to Minnesota with a faculty position at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester.

 

Portrait Amanda BoczkowskiAmanda Schwarz (née Boczkowski) PhD: 2018-2020

Amanda received her MS and PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Florida in Gainesville . Her dissertation was entitled “Design, Construction and validation of a Novel Collimation System to Perform Proton Stereotactic Radiosurgery Using a Mevion S250 proton Therapy Unit”.  She is a faculty member at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Stephen Graves, PhD: 2017-2019

Stephen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his MS and PhD in Medical Physics. Previously he conducted research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and is presently a faculty member in the Dept. of Radiology at the University of Iowa.

Linda Poplawski, MS DABR: 2016-2018

Linda Poplawski received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from High Point University in 2013 and Master of Science in Medical Physics from Duke University in 2015. Previous research work includes an evaluation of dose deformation in gynecological brachytherapy. She joined the faculty at West Virginia University in fall of 2018.

Jeffrey graduated a little before Linda Poplawski, having previously studied on the east coast where he earned his undergraduate degree in physics from SUNY and his Master's degree in Medical Physics from Stony Brook University. He joined our department as a physics faculty member in January 2018.

 

Edgar GeloverEdgar Gelover, PhD DABR: 2015-2017

Before beginning his residency, Edgar received his PhD from University College London and worked as a post-doc in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa. After completing his residency Edgar accepted a proton therapy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and currently works a a physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Johns Hopkins University.  

 

Adam DalhartAdam Dalhart, MS, DABR: 2014-2016

Adam received his MS in medical physics from the University of Toledo in 2014. Following residency, Adam began as a medical physicist in our department at the University of Iowa and covers several partner clinics in his day-to-day activities.

 

 

Tyler CollumsTyler Collums, PhD, DABR: 2013-2015

Before beginning his  residency, Tyler received his PhD from Oklahoma State University in 2013. Currently, he is a medical physicist with Medical Physics Consulting, Inc in Mounds, Oklahoma.

 

 

Patrick HillPatrick Hill, PhD, DABR: 2012-2014

Patrick received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011. He returned to UW-Madison following his residency as an Assistant Professor in the department of Radiation Oncology.

 

 

Chris MartChristopher Mart, MS, DABR: 2011-2013

After completing Masters degrees in Physics (Clemson University, 2009) and Medical Physics (University of Cincinnati, 2011), Chris began his residency at the University of Iowa. Following residency, he moved to warmer weather and is a medical physicist at the Medical University of South Carolina.

 

Daniel HyerDaniel Hyer, PhD, DABR: 2010-2012

Dan received his PhD in medical physics from the University of Florida in 2010. Upon completion of his residency, Dan joined the team here at the University of Iowa and is currently a Clinical Associate Professor. 

 

Yunfei Huang​Yunfei Huang, PhD, DABR: 2009-2011

Yunfei earned her PhD in Physics from the University of Iowa in 2008 before entering the Medical Physics residency. While presently employed by Rohnert Park Cancer Center, (Rohnert Park, CA), she also worked for  Boston Medical Center, Boston, MA (2015-2017) and  Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI (2013-2015).

 

Junyi Xia​Junyi Xia, PhD, DABR: 2009-2011

Junyi received his PhD from the University of Florida in medical physics. Junyi worked as Assistant Professor of Medical Physics at the University of Iowa, until June 2018 then moved to New York City where is employed at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Vibha earned her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison before beginning her residency at the University of Iowa. She has worked as a medical physicist in Ohio (2012-2017) and is presently employed by Novant Health in North Carolina. 

 

Xiaofei Ying​Xiaofei Ying MS, DABR: 2008-2010

Xiaofei completed his MS in Computer Science from the University of Memphis. Since graduating the residency program, Xiaofei has worked for Sentara Healthcare System in Norfolk, Virginia.

Earl received his MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 2006. After completion of the residency program, Earl joined the medical physics team at the University of Iowa.

​Hemant received his MS in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis TN. After graduating from the residency program in April 2008, he took a job at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria IL, where he still works today.

James Sample was a Health Physicist at a Nuclear Power Facility before joining the department to assist in establishing the residency (when only 8 other CAMPEP residencies existed) and was the first graduate of the Iowa program. After graduating he became board certified and provided medical physics consulting support at healthcare facilities in Iowa and Illinois.
