Christopher Cooper, MD, UI professor of urology, has been awarded the 2022 John W. Duckett, Jr., MD, Pediatric Urology Research Excellence Award by the Urology Care Foundation of the American Urological Association (AUA).

The selection committee noted the remarkable breadth and depth of Dr. Cooper’s clinical research in pediatric urology.

“His observations and research frequently challenge accepted standards of care but also offer solutions to these identified challenges,” the committee wrote.

The committee lauded Dr. Cooper’s 150 peer-reviewed publications and the lasting impact his work has had in a variety of areas such as vesicoureteral reflux, bowel and bladder dysfunction, neurogenic bladder, and hydronephrosis.

“It is thrilling to receive this award, which provides me an element of confirmation that my research efforts have also been impactful,” Dr. Cooper says. “The John W. Duckett, Jr., Award, named after an untiring, innovative legend in pediatric urology, motivates and challenges me to continue my research efforts.”

The award will be presented at the Urology Care Foundation Research Honors Program held at the AUA Annual Meeting in May.
