Diversity Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology

The Visiting Elective Urology Diversity Scholarship was established in 2020 to encourage medical students who are underrepresented in medicine or are interested in working with underserved populations to pursue advanced clinical study in urology. The scholarship is open to those students with an interest in urology who have successfully completed the third year of medical school at an LCME-accredited institution.* One or two outstanding medical students will be selected for this award. The scholarship provides up to $1,000 towards student travel and housing during the elective at the University of Iowa.

Scholarship awardees will participate in surgical and clinical services served by the University of Iowa Department of Urology and included in educational programming such as skills labs and conferences. During the elective, the awardee will give a 10-15 minute talk covering an aspect of diversity in urologic medicine during one of the department's educational conferences.

Due to current institutional policies regarding outside medical student rotations during the COVID pandemic, we will continue to screen applications. We will not be able to confirm in person rotations until the University of Iowa reinstates the ability to accept visiting students.

Rotation dates for 2021 (rotation dates cannot be adjusted):

Block 1  7/5/21 – 7/30/21

Block 2 8/2/2021 – 8/27/2021
