The Visiting Elective Urology Diversity Scholarship encourages medical students who are underrepresented in medicine or are interested in working with underserved populations to pursue advanced clinical study in urology. The scholarship is open to students with an interest in urology who have successfully completed the third year of medical school at an LCME-accredited institution. We cannot accept applications from students in osteopathic programs.
One or two outstanding medical students will be selected for this award. The scholarship provides up to $1,000 toward student travel and housing during the elective at the University of Iowa.
Scholarship awardees will participate in surgical and clinical services provided by the University of Iowa Department of Urology and in educational programming such as skills labs and conferences. During the elective, the awardee will give a 10- to 15-minute talk covering an aspect of diversity in urologic medicine during one of the department's educational conferences.
