Multiple clinical outcomes studies with the potential to change patient care, as well as basic science studies are continuing in the department. These studies focus on the many aspects of prostate and bladder cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, impotence, laparoscopic surgery, incontinence and reconstructive surgery, interstitial cystitis, and reproductive testing and infertility.
The department is especially focused on searching for treatments, and ultimately cures, for such devastating urologic diseases as prostate and bladder cancers. To this end, the department research area, including leading members of the University’s Prostate Cancer Research Group, continually raises the standard of care by exploring innovative techniques to battle cancer. Large-scale human trials are ongoing, with several patents already pending for new techniques of delivering cancer-fighting treatments.
