Donna Hammond, PhD, earned the 2020 UI Diversity Catalyst Award for her efforts in promoting the development of an inclusive, diverse campus community.

Among other contributions, Hammond was the first director of PREP@Iowa, a post-baccalaureate research education program aimed at traditionally underrepresented groups in biomedical fields. The program provided highly customized career development activities, coursework, GRE preparation and laboratory research experiences to help students enhance their qualifications and competitiveness for graduate school.

Established in 1999 by what was then the Office of Affirmative Action, the Diversity Catalyst Award honors faculty or staff members, programs or departments, and students or student organizations engaged in diversity initiatives that have promoted the development of an inclusive, diverse campus community.
