Creative writing contest open to faculty, residents, fellows, and students

Submissions are now being accepted for this year’s Carver College of Medicine Creative Writing Contest.

Eligibility

The contest is divided into two separate competitions for:

  • Faculty, resident physicians, fellow physicians, and postdoctoral fellows
  • Students in the MD, PA (physician assistant), and PT (physical therapy) programs

Faculty, residents, fellows

  • Previously unpublished works of fiction (2,500 words maximum) or poetry (140 words maximum) will be accepted
  • Entrants may submit a total of two poems and one short story; each poem or short story must be submitted separately
  • Each entry must be submitted as a PDF document, with 12-point font size and 1-inch document margins
  • Faculty, resident,  and fellow submissions

Students

  • Previously unpublished works of poetry (140 words maximum) will be accepted
  • Entrants may submit a total of two poems; each poem must be submitted separately
  • Each entry must fit onto one 8.5x11-inch page and submitted in PDF format
  • Student submissions

Additional submission details

  • Entries may cover any subject and are not limited to health care or biomedical science.
  • All submissions will undergo a “blind” review by a group of Carver College of Medicine faculty and staff.
  • Titles of creative works are welcome, but please do not include your name or other identifying information.
  • Winning and selected entries will be based on artisanship, originality, and content.

Anthology

Contest winners’ work and other selected submissions will be published in the college’s 2023 Creative Writing Anthology.
