  1. National Library of Medicine, "Historical Elder Abuse Data: Annotated Bibliography."

    The purpose of this project is to develop an electronic publication with databases that include the following: elder abuse statistics, a description of state investigative agency structures and processes, an annotated bibliography of elder abuse research publications, and a critique of elder abuse screening instruments. 
     
  2. The Retirement Research Foundation, "Evaluation of the Investigative Systems for Conducting Nursing Home Abuse Investigations."

    Project dates: 01/01/2005-12/31/2006. 

    The purpose of this policy research is to compare the effects of the differing investigative systems on the recorded rates of reported, investigated and substantiated nursing home abuse. 
     
  3. Iowa Prevention Research Center, University of Iowa, "Reporting of Elder Abuse in Nursing Homes"

    Award amount: $10,770. 
    Project dates: 04/012003-03/31/2004. 

    The purposes of this proposal were threefold to: 1) identify rationale why nursing home administrators and directors of nursing are not reporting dependent adult abuse, 2) identify their understanding of the mechanics and operation of the Adult Protective Services law, and 3) compare reported incidents of nursing home abuse by rural-urban counties, nursing home characteristics, nursing home inspection results, and nursing staff. 
     
  4. Internal Research Award, Department of Family Medicine, University of Iowa, "Physician Elder Abuse Survey and Interview"

    The purpose of this project was to determine family practice physician's knowledge of state laws regarding elder abuse, perceived barriers to reporting suspected cases of elder abuse, and factors associated with reporting elder abuse in practice. 
     
  5. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded research, "Impact of Laws on State Reported Elder Abuse"

    Award amount: $421,712. 
    Project Dates: 9/30/00-9/29/02. 

    The purpose of this project was to evaluate the implementation and impact of state adult protective service statutes and regulations on the conduct of elder abuse investigations and outcomes. The public health services and laws being evaluated were the statutory and regulatory definitions of a dependent/vulnerable adult, elder mistreatment and the elder abuse investigative systems.
