University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is home to Iowa’s only pediatric comprehensive pain clinic. The team of pediatric specialists includes a doctor, nurse practitioner, nurse, psychologist, social worker, and physical therapist, all specially trained to help children and young adults through age 21 with chronic pain. Our team partners with your child and family to provide a comprehensive, holistic, and individualized approach to pain management.
Our team focuses not only on treatment for pain, but also on the source of the pain and your child’s overall well-being, including:
- Alternative and integrative medicine
- Evidence-based treatments using medication and minimally invasive procedures
- Physical therapy
- Psychological support
Pain can impact many parts of your child’s life, including:
- Daily activities
- Learning
- Mood
- Relationships and family life
- Sleep
While pain may not go away completely, it often can be reduced to a manageable level. Our team works with your child and family to help your child maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve their personal goals.
