Graduate Medical Education Award honorees announced

We are proud to announce the winners of this year’s Graduate Medical Education Awards, which were presented at the 16th annual GME Leadership Symposium on May 12. Eleven individuals—program directors, program coordinators, faculty, and interprofessional colleagues—were honored for the contributions they make to graduate medical education with University of Iowa Health Care.

Denise Jamieson named vice president for medical affairs, Carver College of Medicine dean

Denise J. Jamieson, the James Robert McCord Professor and Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine and chief of gynecology and obstetrics for Emory Healthcare, has been named vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. She will begin Aug. 1.

Jessica Roberts De Haan: Conquering medical school in 'the throes of motherhood'

Jessica Roberts De Haan of Navarre, Florida, loved connecting with patients as a physician assistant. When she decided to advance her career by going to medical school, she had to figure out how to balance her studies with her service in the National Guard and her growing family. She plans to work as a medical missionary to advance global health.

Gaine, Zhang win INI Williams-Cannon Fellowships for neurodegeneration research

Two University of Iowa faculty members have been awarded Williams-Cannon Faculty Fellowships through the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. Marie Gaine, PhD, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences and experimental therapeutics, and Qiang (Johnson) Zhang, MD, clinical assistant professor of neurology, will each receive $47,500 in research funding.
