W. John Sharp, MD, Professor of Surgery, Director Division of Vascular Surgery, was the 2019 Carver College of Medicine recipient of the President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Sharp, vice chair of education in the Dept. of Surgery, received the award for his impact on the education of generations of surgeons. Sharp is the current director of the vascular surgery fellowship program, and was the program director of the general surgery residency program for more than 20 years.  Sharp was among those honored at the University of Iowa's annual Faculty and Staff Awards celebration on Oct. 16, 2019. More information on the President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence can be found here. Information on the honorees of the 2019 Faculty and Staff awards can be found here.
