GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Internal Search: Associate Vice Presidents for Research (two positions): The OVPR has formed a search committee to recruit part-time associate vice presidents for research who will oversee OVPR's work on behalf of the arts, humanities and social sciences, as well as the biomedical, mathematical, and physical sciences. FUNDING:
Addressing Health Disparities: University of Iowa (UI) Health Care is seeking applications for a new research pilot grant program that will support research that addresses health disparities within our community and patient populations. This funding is supported by the Office of Health Parity and the Vice President of Medical Affairs. More information.
2022 Hawk-IDDRC Pilot Grants: Iowa's Hawkeye Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (Hawk-IDDRC) is seeking applications for a new research pilot grant program that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or amelioration of intellectual and developmental disabilities. CTSA Inter-Institutional Pilot Grants: The Consortium of Rural States (CORES) invites all faculty to apply for inter-institutional pilot awards that promote inter-institutional collaboration by funding innovative, translational research projects that involve three or more of the six consortium members. CORE FACILITY UPDATES:
CENTRAL MICROSCOPY RESEARCH FACILITY: CMRF has added two instruments to the facility. The Hitachi HT7800 Transmission Electron Microscope and Zeiss LSM 980 AiryScan 2 Confocal Microscope. Contact randy-nessler@uiowa.edu for a demonstration.
IIHG GENOMICS: A Spatial Transcriptomics Service using the 10x Genomics Visium Platform is now available. The Iowa NeuroBank Core at the Iowa Neuroscience Institute (INI), and the Genomics and Bioinformatics Divisions at the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics (IIHG) work seamlessly to offer the Visium Spatial Transcriptomics service at the University of Iowa. IOWA NEUROBANK CORE: Qiagen will be giving a presentation on "Quantitative Sequencing by Synthesis: Introduction to the Pyromark Q48 Autoprep" on Dec 16 to introduce Qiagen's Pyrosequencing, which enables the immune quantification of mutations, SNP, CpG and CpN methylation, and more. 10:00am via Zoom.
PROTEIN & CRYSTALLOGRAPHY FACILITY: The P&CF is housing 2 new instrument additions. The first one is an optical tweezers instrument (C-Trap) from Lumicks. The second one measures molecular mass of single-molecules in solution (Mass photometry) and is from Refyn. Contact nicholas-schnicker@uiowa.edu to find out more.
SCIENTIFIC EDITING & RESEARCH COMMUNICATION CORE: In October, the SERCC sent out its first monthly newsletter. Issues will highlight resources the SERCC has developed for writing grants and research articles, and tips and resources for writing abstracts for research articles.
