Association of Multicultural Scientists

Our Mission

AMS is a graduate student and postdoctoral scholar-led organization sponsored by the Carver College of Medicine’s Office of Health Parity. Our mission statement is “to create an environment at the University of Iowa that is conducive in supporting the academic, professional, and social needs of all post-graduates." We aim to create an enriching and diverse space where students, trainees, scholars, staff, and faculty can work towards reaching their academic, professional, and social goals.

What We Do

AMS hosts various events throughout the academic year and is involved in collaborative events with partnered organizations.

These include: 

  • AMS Coffee Breaks
  • The Great AMS Bake-off
  • Annual Comprehensive Exam Panel
  • Slice of Science Series 
  • Professional Development events in collaboration with the Graduate College 
  • Collaboration with other Organization in the Office of Health Parity 

We welcome new members:

  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate students (including MSTP)
  • Postdoctoral Scholars
  • Faculty
  • Research Assistants

All individuals with an interest in fostering and supporting diversity in the biomedical sciences are invited to participate.
