The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is pleased to announce the second cohort of Stead Family Scholars. The goal of this program is to recognize and advance the development of outstanding early-career faculty who are becoming internationally recognized leaders in their respective fields of research.

Landmark research sets precedent for future of neonatal care

Ali Jabbari, MD, PhD, has been appointed chair and departmental executive officer (DEO) of the Department of Dermatology in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, effective Aug. 15. Jabbari, a UI alumnus and a faculty member in the department since 2017, is an associate professor and member of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI. He will assume leadership responsibilities from Janet Fairley, MD, who has led the Department of Dermatology since January 2007. Fairley will continue as a faculty member in the department.

Dr. Ashutosh Mangalam receives a major gift from Ms. Margaret Heppelmann and Mr. Michael G. Wacek to study the role of natural versus synthetic progesterone in modulating immune responses.

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Excellence in Clinical Teaching Awards for resident and fellow physicians. This accolade is awarded based on nominations received from medical students, faculty, and peers to highlight exceedingly dynamic and skilled instruction by our physician-educators. This year, 47 residents and fellows were nominated, and 13 individuals were selected.
