Dr. Van Beek Elected UIHC Chief of Staff

Marta VanBeek, MD, MPH, Clinical Associate Professor, Dermatology, has been elected University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Chief of Staff. Dr. VanBeek, who holds the C. William Hanke Professorship in Dermatology Surgery, serves as director of the Division of Dermatology Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, and oversees the Fellowship Program in Dermatologic Surgery. She will begin serving her three-year term as Chief of Staff immediately.

Dr. VanBeek joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 2003, following residency training in Dermatology(1997-2001), and a subsequent fellowshipin an NIH sponsored Dermato-Epidemiology Program during which she completed a master’s degree in public health.  She served on faculty as a medical dermatologist while she completed a Mohs Micrographic and Dermatologic Surgery fellowship at UI Hospitals and Clinicsin 2007. She is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Van Beek also holds several national leadership roles within the American Academy of Dermatology.

Among other responsibilities the Chief of Staff serves as the Vice Chair of the University Hospital Advisory Committee and Chair of the Professional Practice and Well-being Subcommittee. In addition, the Chief of Staff serves as ombudsman for the clinical staff and provides a liaison between the clinical staff and the deans of the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry.
