Office of Facilities Planning and Management

About the Office

The Office of Facility Planning and Management oversees the collegiate facilities, both existing and new construction. This encompasses approximately 1,838,000 gross square feet of existing space in 12 buildings on the west University of Iowa campus as well as the UI Research Park. This equates to approximately 1,113,000 net square feet of usable space which houses research, education and administrative functions of the College. Approximately 532,000 net square feet of space is devoted to research. These buildings range in year of construction from 1919 to 2015.

The Office of Facilities Planning and Management works closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs in assigning, maintaining and renovating space for all wet lab and clinical research activities taking place in collegiate facilities. It is generally the first call for problems and coordinates all planned utility interruptions with occupants of buildings affected. The Office also oversees security control systems in collegiate facilities and assigns and manages access for employees. The Office also coordinates parking for all Carver College of medicine staff and faculty with the UI Department of Parking and Transportation.
