The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine’s ophthalmology residency program was ranked No. 2 in the nation in Ophthalmology Times’ 2022 Best Program Survey. 

“This recognition is a result of the hard work of our faculty, residents, staff, patients and alumni, who are dedicated to education and training the next generation of ophthalmologists,” says Pavlina Kemp, MD, director of the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences’ residency program. “We are proud and grateful to receive this acknowledgement of everyone’s efforts and will continue to work to build the program even further.” 

The survey was conducted by Ophthalmology Times electronically among leaders of ophthalmology programs across the U.S. Alongside the University in the category of “Best Residency Program” was the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (No. 1) and Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins (No. 3).
