Keffala leads state psychological association

Valerie Keffala, PhD, clinical assistant professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, began a one-year term as president of the Iowa Psychological Association on Jan. 1.

Keffala, a clinical psychologist in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, treats patients with psychological conditions related to chronic pain and work-related injuries. In addition to her clinical duties at UI Hospitals & Clinics, she serves at the UI Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital in Coralville, Iowa. The 40-bed facility, which opened in June 2020, is a venture with Encompass Health.

The Iowa Psychological Association provides advocacy, education and training, and professional support for psychologists across Iowa. The organization also strives to educate the public about mental health and wellness.
