A message to our UI Health Care community

Date: Thursday, June 4, 2020

A message from Brooks Jackson, MD, MBA, University of Iowa Vice President for Medical Affairs & the Tyrone D. Artz Dean, Carver College of Medicine

We are deeply saddened by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, another appalling tragedy in a series of too many in which African Americans have lost their lives at the hands of law enforcement. We condemn this killing and the underlying culture of racism and violence that led to it.

As a health institution, our mission is to bring hope and healing. The very foundation of that mission must be to provide an environment of safety, fairness, dignity, and respect for all. UI Health Care is committed to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution that honors and uplifts all students, faculty, staff, patients, and our community. To learn what you can do, please read this statement from the Carver College of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

We offer our deepest condolences to the families and communities who have been victims of racism and violence. We stand together with those who call for justice and reconciliation.
