Schmidt named American Physiological Society educator of the year

Thomas Schmidt, PhD, professor of molecular physiology and biophysics, was named the 2017 Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year by the American Physiological Society (APS). The award, which was presented during this spring’s Experimental Biology meeting in Chicago, honors Schmidt’s commitment to teaching and educational scholarship.
Since joining the department in 1983, Schmidt has consistently been recognized for his teaching, receiving honors that include a Master Teacher Award from the International Association of Medical Science Educators and a University of Iowa President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence. He became a fellow of APS in 2016.
