UI graduate to lead American Medical Association Foundation

Patricia Austin, MD, a 1974 UI Carver College of Medicine graduate, has been elected president of the American Medical Association Foundation, serving a one-year term following her current year as president-elect.

Austin completed her residency in pediatrics and ophthalmology at the University of California San Francisco and currently practices at the John Muir Health-Walnut Creek Medical Center in California. Austin has served as a past president of the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Association and past chair of the department of ophthalmology at John Muir Medical Center. She serves on the Council on Constitution and Bylaws as a delegate of the AMA.

The American Medical Association Foundation works to improve community health through awarding medical student scholarships and supporting free community health clinics for underserved patients across the nation.
