Steven Varga, PhD, professor of microbiology and immunology in the UI Carver College of Medicine, has been selected to serve as chair of the Virology B Study Section of the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health. His two-year term in the position ends June 30, 2022.

Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline based on the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.

“Serving as study section chair is an important scientific leadership role, and we are proud to recognize Dr. Varga’s expertise and commitment to the research community as he takes up this position,” says Li Wu, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine.
