At Iowa, students become accomplished clinicians and top-flight researchers and educators by training in a rigorous, supportive environment with a strong commitment to scholarship, humanism, and mutual respect.
We admit students who thrive in this academic environment. We teach from a medical curriculum that provides the best didactic and practical learning experiences and offers opportunities for students to experience the world through research, service, travel, and the humanities.
Our students learn from outstanding faculty members, many of whom are recognized as experts in their fields and committed to teaching and training the next generation of leaders in clinical care, biomedical research, and health care education with a focus on innovation and collaboration.
Those students enrich communities throughout Iowa with volunteerism and service through our educational STEM pathway programs, the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic, and commitments to serving in rural Iowa, just to name a few.
We are proud to have served as the only allopathic school of medicine in the state for more than 150 years and to carry the names of Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver in recognition of their generous philanthropic gifts that have supported patient care, research, and education.
The UI Carver College of Medicine is part of UI Health Care—a fully integrated academic medical center that includes multiple campuses and off-site clinics across the state, and UI Physicians, the university's multispecialty medical and surgical group practice. This unique structure allows us to align our academic and clinical activities, integrate strategic and business planning, and better deliver excellent patient care, innovative biomedical research, and superior education and training.
As dean and vice president for medical affairs, I’m proud to invite you to learn more.
