Course title: “Freedom House Ambulance Service: The forgotten story of America’s first paramedics”

Lecturer with credentials: Kevin Hazzard is an author, journalist and screenwriter who spent ten years as a paramedic in Atlanta. John Moon was hired by Freedom House Ambulance in 1972 became a part of the world’s first fully-trained paramedic corps.

Course description: The Freedom House Ambulance Service was "the world's first fully-trained paramedic program" that was "staffed exclusively with young Black men" from Pittsburgh. 

Learning objectives:

Learn when and why the program was developed. 

Understand how the program helped address health outcomes and disparities, especially among the Black community.
