I am Because You Are!
February is Black History Month where we take time to celebrate the achievements of Black Americans and honor the significant role and impact they have made on all facets of life and society throughout U.S. history. Dr. Carter G. Woodson chose February because Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, whom he felt had greatly influenced the lives or African Americans, had birthdays in February.
Since 1976, each American president has endorsed a specific theme for Black history month. The Black History Month 2024 theme is “African Americans and the Arts."
