The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation and the Organ Transplant Center at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an abdominal transplant surgeon for the positions of Director of the Iowa Health Care Organ Transplant Center and Director, Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - NEUROSURGERY

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery is currently recruiting for a faculty position as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track. This role will include evaluating neurosurgery patients subspecialized in skull base and tumor diagnosis within the outpatient ambulatory setting, performing operative procedures, managing patients who are admitted to both the emergency room and in-patient services, and conducting neurophysiology research on neurosurgery patients. Research will focus on areas related to brain tumor biology, with a specific emphasis on meningiomas and schwannomas. Clinical responsibilities will be tailored to optimize this role’s ability to achieve maximal success as a clinical/academic skull base neurosurgeon, including referrals of patients with brain tumors.

The Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education (OCRME) and the Carver College of Medicine is recruiting for an onsite full-time faculty position which includes faculty responsibilities within OCRME’s Master in Medical Education (MME) program. In particular, this individual will be a strong teacher who provides expertise in teaching methods, clinical teaching, mentoring, and faculty development. This individual will be responsible for teaching graduate level courses (including Clinical Teaching and Teaching Methods) and overseeing OCRME’s faculty development programs. The successful candidate would primarily provide service to OCRME with additional service to the College and the hiring department on request.
This faculty member will join a team of educators in the Master in Medical Education program in the Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education, located in Iowa City, Iowa. OCRME has been an integral part of the Carver College of Medicine’s educational program for more than 40 years. OCRME faculty and staff provide expertise, leadership, and mentoring in educational scholarship and innovation. In addition to teaching courses and advising students enrolled in certificate and advanced degree programs, OCRME faculty also provide consultation and advice to the college’s faculty, staff, and educational leadership. OCRME faculty and staff are national and international leaders in healthcare education, present at national and international forums, publish in educational and scientific journals, and take on senior positions in professional organizations.
The successful candidate will have an area of expertise that complements current faculty members’ interests in assessment, evaluation, simulation, communication, and interprofessional education. This position will also collaborate closely with staff and faculty colleagues in instructional technology, instructional design, and curriculum development across the Carver College of Medicine.

CLINICAL TRACK - FACULTY MEMBER

The University of Iowa Department of Psychiatry is seeking faculty for a position as an Inpatient Psychiatrist. Appointment will be as a Clinician Scholar - a non-tenure clinical track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The overall philosophy of this academic division is the provision of comprehensive patient-centered care in our inpatient settings and a variety of unique subspecialty practice settings within our healthcare system.
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is renowned for its rich history and ongoing growth, marked by significant expansions in faculty and innovative partnerships, such as with the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. The department has enhanced its clinical services by developing novel new services such as our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and our Neurobehavioral Specialty Unit (NBSU), a 4bed intensive care setting for our most complex patients with challenging behaviors. We have a total of 88 inpatient beds across 6 units, including a 15 bed child psychiatry unit, a 14 bed geriatric unit, 15 bed Psychotic Disorders Unit, a 25 bed unit for general psychiatry -a 15 bed Medical Psychiatry Unit, and the Neurobehavioral Specialty Unit. We have partnered with Emergency Medicine to staff a mental health services team (MD, social work, APPs) in the emergency room and in the fall of 2025 we will be opening a new 12-bed section of the emergency room dedicated to the treatment of psychiatric patients. Our short-stay CSU will be expanding in the fall of 2024 from 12 to 16 beds with an additional 5 beds for adolescents.
Our outpatient services include a vibrant Interventional Psychiatry service that includes ECT, TMS, ketamine and esketamine and a research protocol in psychedelic medicine. Our Addictions Recovery Collaborative has an ever-growing program of medication assisted treatment. Other specialty clinics include Women’s Wellness, Neuropsychiatry, Huntington’s Disease, and unique program with specialty care in patients with Intellectual Disability and Mental Illness (ID-MI) – the only program of its kind in the country.
Committed to excellence in teaching, the department has a large number of training programs including general psychiatry (12 residents per year), combined family medicine/psychiatry (4 residents per year) and combined internal medicine/psychiatry (2 residents per year). Our fellowships include child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and addiction medicine. Our program provides residents with opportunities to learn from leaders in various psychiatric fields, supported by a faculty known for high-quality patient care and educational contributions.

INSTRUCTOR
Department: Neuroscience and Pharmacology

The Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa invites applications for one full-time Instructor (non-tenure track) position with faculty fringe benefits. This teaching position is a 9- or 12-month appointment and renewable annually. The preferred start date is July 1 or September 1, 2026. Applications are sought from candidates with a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching of basic and advanced pharmacology.
The selected candidate will ultimately teach pharmacology in several Department lecture courses delivered to students of differing academic backgrounds (undergraduate, graduate, and professional students).
